Unlike so many books about designers, Curious Boym: Design Works is pure fun, through and through. From its die-cut front cover, to the carrying handle bound at its center, to the closing quote by Dr. Seuss, this book gives you a great sense not only of the designers’ aesthetic but of their personalities as well. Written by Constantin Boym, it reads like a casual, personal tour through this husband and wife design team’s products: from their first collaborations (edible pencils made of cookie dough, yum!) to some of their more (in)famous pieces (the Buildings of Disasters series which are souvenir-sized replicas of the sites of some of the most tragic events in recent history: the World Trade Center, Chernobyl, the Unabomber’s cabin.). Okay, so it’s not all gags and giggles, but it does remind us of the importance of whimsy and wit in contemporary design. Hardcover 6.375" x 8.5", 240 pages, 350 color photographs.
