We believe it was Plato who said “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Or was it Woody Guthrie? Either way, this book perfectly illustrates that sage maxim. As indicated by the title, it catalogs over 220 objects from artist Vladimir Arkhipov’s quirky collection of contemporary Russian folk artifacts, each one born from the ingenuity of an ordinary Russian citizen who made what they needed from whatever materials they could find: a TV antennae made out of forks (see cover image), a toilet plunger fashioned from a rubber ball and a chair leg. As beautiful as they are clever, each product page has a picture of its creator as well as a story of how it came to be. Clothbound, 4.75" x 8", 304 pgs, 180 color.
