Russel Wright is a hero in our household, but we were reading his "theories on table setting" the other evening and were a bit shocked and highly amused by the austerity he calls for when it comes to setting a table. According to him your dishes should not distract from the food, (fine, we get it) but limiting your plates to matte white, black, or gray is nuts.
We think eating should be fun and joyous, a celebration of tastes, smells, textures, and colors. And contrary to Mr. Wright, we believe that having curious and remarkable dishes adds to a meal, not the other way around. What's wrong with dishes that look beautiful even when there's no food in sight? Absolutely nothing. So, in a rare instance of complete disagreement with an icon of modernism, we offer you these fun, exciting, playful, distracting, colorful, and just plain yummy melamine dishes.
